Self-Promotion Sunday
First, as many of you know, I've been job seeking, and have actually taken the first step to trying to gain some non-profit/small business consulting clients. So on Thursday, September 1st at 5:30 pm, I'll be putting on a presentation around using Twitter and Facebook - more specifically, once you establish accounts for your business, how do you actually use them in a smart, strategic way. The "Next Steps" session will be held at Newberry Library, located 60 W. Walton. There is a small cost which covers rental of the room and materials - for more information and to RSVP, please visit http://nextsteps0901111.eventbrite.com.
On a less professional - but more fun - note, I'll also be putting on another Doctor Who 101 event for Chicago Nerd Social Club. (Yes, I know it's the Chicago Net Tuesday meeting, but I need a break from that. Life can't be all saving-the-world). We'll be meeting on Tuesday, September 13th at 7:00 pm at Wormhole Coffee, located at 1462 N. Milwaukee (just a brief walk from the Blue line stop). It'll be fun, and you might learn something. I know I will.
And if you're not tired of me saying this repeatedly - Chicago Red Cross' Mission: Red experience auction will be held on Friday, September 16th at the Hard Rock Hotel at 230 N. Michigan. You can order tickets at http://bit.ly/MissionRedTix, and please follow us on Facebook.
Thanks, and hope to see you at one of these events.

Friday On My Mind, So To Speak
- Mission: Red, the Red Cross experience auction fundraiser for which I volunteer as marketing co-chair, is officially kicked off. If you can make it in September, please feel free to sign up (and Twitter/Facebook/etc) at http://bit.ly/MissionRedTix. This is a very high-end event, but one which I think at least a few of you might be interested in (and you can always follow the event on Facebook)
- Obligatory mention of my latest guest post on The Job Stalker
- To the guy who called me a "hypocrite" in response to this post - sorry, dude, but you lost the argument when you used the same word I called that comic shop owner on. And if I offend someone, pulling my statement isn't hypocrisy - it's being responsible. Just like blocking you from making a response on this blog is, as well as encouraging people to visit your shop's competitor.
- Speaking of controversial opinions, please give a listen to fellow Comic Related podcasters Nerd Girls Eye View as they discuss women in comics.
- Thankfully, I have a pass for WizardWorld Comicon next week...but may end up going either Friday or Saturday. At the very least, I can get a chance to beat up Billy Corgan for crimes against music and the city of Chicago. (Hey, I came of age in the '90s. He's a bit of a prat. I think I'm owed that much)
- Remember that Doctor Who 101 event I did for Chicago Nerd Social Club? Planning one for September. Watch this space and others for details.
- Finally, as long as it's Friday, it's time once again for a new Zone 4 podcast episode. Let pal Brant lay it out You Tube style:

Your Non-Charlie Sheen Moment of Zen

On March 8th, the Chicago Red Cross is sponsoring another of their Flirting With Disaster events. Since I am a volunteer and will be gearing work towards Mission: Red, I feel obligated to help encourage my Chicago pals to support this event.
Please feel free to register for the March 8th Flirting by clicking this link.
(Please note - despite picture, I cannot guarantee that there will be cake. Brownies were available in February, but I have no idea what the dessert choices will be.)
(On another note - if I attend, I promise that I do my famous Buster Keaton impersonation, as seen in this picture)
