Good News, Everyone! (Special Birthday Edition)

You're probably wondering why I have what appears to be a fully drawn and colored comics page on the left.

Well, that is the first page of my first "official" comics writing project.

Thanks to pal and co-host Captain Ron Fortier of Airship 27 (who is best known for writing the definitive Green Hornet comic), I was connected with a studio out of Brazil. Thankfully, Carlos (my editor) assigned me the task of reviving Fox Feature Syndicate's Wonderman, a character with a very interesting history. (If you would like to read his only appearance, you can download the book legally via digitalcomicmuseum.com)

The book will be drawn by Charles Bertho and colored is RogĂ©rio Rocha, and will be available at some point (they're still working on the art) via IndyPlanet and Drive Thru comics. Much like this blog, this book (tentatively a one-shot) will have a diverse range of influences - you won't read another comic that contains hints of Buddhism, 12 Step philosophy, political and economic commentary....and plenty of robot punching.

(Does it count if I spoil my own book?)

But speaking of Zone 4, our latest episode featuring Kevin Minnter is live on Comic Related. (And if you're looking to get mentioned on our show, just "like" us on Facebook) Here's the trailer by the ever-so-awesome Mr. Brant Fowler:

Finally, as I announced on Facebook - the band is back together. For those of you who listened to the old online Whoverse radio show, Phil and I are getting back together....for a slightly different show. We're moving to a different online venue, but more importantly - we're going to do an online television show. Details will be forthcoming, but we're going to stay on Sundays at 1:00 pm for broadcast, we're going to keep it an hour, and we're going to rename it "The Bar Tab of Rassilon".

Keep watching this space, everyone. Good stuff continues to happen.

Getting in Trouble Online: The Friday Edition

By now, you're probably all used to me posting about my online shenanigans, whether it's another post for Chicago Now's Job Stalker or another call for you to head to http://bit.ly/WhoverseLive to listen the Doctor Who online show I co-host (with episode three up on the archive at http://bit.ly/Whoverse). God, you'd think there was some kind of convention about the show coming up.....

...well, on November 19th at 12:00 pm, I'm fortunate enough to host a third (and final for this year) Doctor Who 101 session at Next Door Chicago, located at 659 W. Diversey next to Trader Joe's. (Thanks to Chicago Nerd Social Club for allowing me one last blow-out). We're able to hold more people (it is a Saturday afternoon)...but if you're planning to come, we're asking that you please RSVP by heading to http://doctorwho101.eventbrite.com.

In addition, I'll also be doing a guest-shot on Saturday at 2 pm CST on WGTR's Live Long & Prosper, which is a Star Trek-themed show. (In all honesty, I'll be called and participate via phone). Of course, this also means that I'm going to have to write twice the material, since I don't want my best material to be wasted and leave my Zone 4 pals wanting.

Speaking of which, check out this week's episode - I'll leave you with Brant's description, but you definitely want to give this episode a listen from beginning to end. The final end:

Your Pre-Halloween Preparatory Moments of Zen

Yes, this weekend is the lead-up to Halloween, and my plans are...well, thanks to little ol' freelancer me, I'll be spending good chunks of it working and being very mobile. I can't really complain though - it was some relatively poor planning on my part, and quite frankly, I'm going to have to start making social engagements more of a priority.

(It's one of the key disadvantages to evening and weekend work - topsy-turvey scheduling. However, thankfully my work commitments have led to a relatively stable income....not enough to buy a sportscar, but enough to take care of amenities. My only worry is a slightly sick cat, but that's part of the grand tapestry of life.

Money matters are actually handled in my latest post for Chicago Now's Job Stalker - it's a follow up to an earlier piece, and is one of the better pieces of writing that I've done in awhile.

Also, on Sunday at 1:00 pm CST, please join me and Phil for another live edition of Whoverse, the streaming Internet Doctor Who Radio Show. Simply click here, and you'll get to hear our live discussion of all things Who. (Please note - we're working on online access, so messaging me on Facebook asking why we're not giving you a shout-out may not be very effective). You can catch past episodes (both of them!) by clicking here.

Finally, there's a new, Halloween-themed episode of Zone 4 (via Comic Related) with an introductory bit that....well, let's let Brant explain it:

See you Monday with a final Quatermass & the Pit....as well as a little something extra.....

Friday Summary of Shenaniganisms

If it's Friday, that means another edition of Zone 4 with Ron and Brant. I tell you, I'm slowly - but surely - gaining some traction in the online world. (And here's the podcast page itself)

Need proof? Here's all the stuff that I've had happen this week - at least, the stuff that's posted online:

Blogging About Blogging

So you're probably wondering where the heck I've been this week....actually, my main computer caught a nasty virus, and my attempts to update the Ubuntu distro on Harvey....well, I've been computer less except for a work computer, and the local library.

(And thankfully, this has been a relaxing work week despite a busy last week, meaning that I am now gaining some future freelance clients, staying current on my part time gig, and networking to find that elusive "dream job I keep hearing about.").

Until then, I'm keeping pretty busy with my extracurricular activities - I'm putting on a social media training for small businesses and non-profits; you are welcome to sign up here if you want to attend on 10/26. It will be small, but trust me, you'll get a lot out of it.

Of course, there's a new Zone 4 episode (which, in my humble opinion, is more important online conversation than the recent canonization of Steve Jobs); let's have pal Brant explain it in detail (just be sure to join us on Facebook):

Finally, please tune in on Sundays  at 1 pm CST for Whoverse - you can listen live at this page, and listen to the Whoverse archive a day or so later.

Thanks again, and trust me, I haven't forgotten you - at least, Roger won't let me.
