Announcing: DOCTOR WHO 101 on July 19th

This has been a really rough week, on multiple levels, but one thing that hasn't been rough...is that yes, thanks to Chicago Nerd Social Club, we'll be holding another Doctor Who 101 event.

We have some really cool guests for our panel (a change from the usual online slideshow), with pal JB from Who 37, my pals from Two Girls One Guy And a Tardis....and pal Phil from the late, lamented Bar Tab of Rassilon. We'll be discussing all sorts of cool Who stuff - favorite episodes, good jumping on points for fans....but ultimately, it's about Doctor Who. What else do you need?

So I'm inviting all of you to join us on Saturday, July 19th at Sulzer Library, located at 4455 N. Lincoln. (It's a short walk from the Western Brown Line station, as well as near the #78 Bus stop). The event will be in the auditorium (straight off the front door), and will start around 2:00 pm.

Cosplay not only welcome - it's encouraged.

All we ask - please RSVP at http://drwho101cnsc.eventbrite.com - that way, we know you're coming (and seats are limited)

At the very least, you can claim to have a close, personal encounter with me!

Kicking Into a Who-Ish Halloween

Spent most of this week recovering from a slightly nasty cold - thankfully, I'm in better spirits, and am feeling more ready for this weekend, which will include a Doctor Who-themed Halloween party on Saturday night, and a meetup/screening on Sunday.

(I'll also be making an appearance on October 30th on The Ultimate TV with pal Phil of Bar Tab of Rassilon. Perhaps there will be some news forthcoming....or at the very least, some on-camera shenanigans).

You also definitely want to give this week's Zone 4 a listen, where we engage in all sorts of tomfoolery. There are plenty of gratuitous Walking Dead references, and I openly mock the "Iron Chef of Opera" (who will be debating Marvel vs. DC with Pal Terry at Third Coast Pre-Election Night).

Also, if you'll be in town November 10th, I'll be putting on a special edition of the Chicago Geek Breakfast. Please be sure to check out our new main page at http://about.me/ChicagoGeekBreakfast.

And don't worry about my lack of blogging - I'm going to make up for it in November. Honestly.

New Doctor Who Trailer

Although I love the trailer, would love to have a debut date so that Phil and I can revive the Bar Tab of Rassilon... (oops - spoilers!)

You BAR TAB OF RASSILON Moment of Zen

And now, your 80s music video moment of zen:

A Pulp-Flavored Weekend

As you may suspect, I will be spending most of my Saturday at Windy City Pulp and Paper Con, hanging out - and having good natured arguments - with Zone 4 co-conspirator Ron Fortier. (Followed by dinner with a St. Louis pal that evening). Yes, people, even though I have some freelance possibilities up in the air (my main one awaits funding; another awaits formal notification; comics work is still being performed), I'm still making my rounds out and about.

Speaking of "out and about", please be sure to check out this week's episode of Zone 4 - it's a great C2E2 recap, and quite honestly, it's always a lot of fun to record. Plus, you'll hear my professional jingle (which contains banjo - according to experts, banjo music makes any commercial impossible to ignore. I'll let you provide any further commentary or insight)

Sunday night, I will also be out and about, practicing some of the grooming tips I propose in this week's Job Stalker when I attend the fundraiser for egen.tv at Highball Lounge, located at 738 N. Clark. As many of you know, I co-host the impressively awesome Bar Tab of Rassilon (soon to be followed by the meetup imaginatively titled The Latte of Rassilon). But for those of you who are interested in attending (and/or making a donation on Indiegogo if you cannot make the Sunday night event), here's a great video explaining things in detail:

So please - feel free to share this post in your social networks, because getting me out of the house and socializing with others is always a good thing.

Post-C2E2 Podcast-O-Ganza

Yes, this is my moment of self-promotion, in which I encourage you to listen to the best podcast on the planet. This week's episode is all about Pulp Ark, which happened this weekend, and which I couldn't attend. (Sandwiched between C2E2 and next weekend's Windy City Pulp and Paper, I just couldn't swing it in terms of travel and time).

You'll also notice that I didn't use the photos that you may have seen featuring me and two of the hosts of Nerd Girls Eye View, another podcast on Comic Related that you should be listening to. I have a Flickr account; please Google me on Flick to check those out. (There's a fine line between cool and creepy, and I've already used those photos. Need to show my fellow podcasters some respect).

Along with pal Chuck and new(ish) pal Ginny, I recorded a brief segment for an episode of their Ginny Tonic Hour podcast. (And surprise! surprise! It's about Doctor Who.) You definitely want to give this one a listen, folks.

Speaking of Doctor Who, you may have heard that Egen.tv, the online home of Bar Tab of Rassilon, has had to move, necessitating a fundraiser to cover costs. You are more than welcome to join me at the Highball Lounge, 738 N. Clark, on Sunday, April 29th, from 6:00 pm to midnight. General Admission is $10; $25 gets you a drink voucher; $50 gets you a $25 voucher towards the silent auction. There will be films! Guests! Bands! Comedians! So thank you for allowing me this brief commercial message.
And to finish off, please feel free to check out my latest ramblings on both Job Stalker and the Baker Street Blog.

While I'm Recovering From C2E2....

...enjoy some of my other online shenanigans.

For those of you who missed it, here's this week's Bar Tab of Rassilon:

and now, here's this week's episode of Zone 4 - no video trailer this week, but instead, here's a shot of me at Zone 4, doing what I do best, whatever that is:

Bookmark This Post for BAR TAB OF RASSILON

Currently having a blast at C2E2 - so much so that I'm going to forgo the daily Flickr upload and post for now.

However, I wanted to remind everyone that this Sunday, April 15th, Phil and I are going to livecast The Bar Tab of Rassilon at 2:00 pm Central Time. It's going to be a nice, rather ramshackle episode, if only because we're both probably going to be drained and loopy from the convention.

However, in an effort to make it easier on all of us (and to help promote some of our pals on egen.tv), here's where you can watch - just simply bookmark this post. (And if one of our broadcast neighbors is streaming, please give it a view).

See you Sunday!

The First Annual "Blog THIS, Pal!" Whostravaganza!

Well, as I'm gearing up for C2E2, wanted to bring your attention to some really cool Doctor Who-related events (that, yes, I am a small part of) going on in the city - you are more than welcome to stop by and enjoy the festivities.

Now, in convenient bullet-point form, are some great events you might want to consider:

And yes, you can check out past episodes of Bar Tab of Rassilon via online video, and no, you can't download. Because quite honestly, would anyone want to be torrented? I think not.

Now, it's time for your fan-made trailer moment of zen:

Typical Saturday Pre-Easter Blogaround

Sheesh, it's nearly Easter already? It seemed like only yesterday that I was recovering from New Year's celebrations....

...actually, the hangover from New Year's Day did officially end yesterday. Gee, I must be getting old.

Why, it was just last week that I was on Ultimate TV, a local show hosted by a pal, in order to promote the new Bar Tab of Rassilon (complete with its own egen.tv page). Granted, being part of their "Twitter anniversary" was cool, but the best part was reminding both ladies that David Tennant is now a married man.

Speaking of misbehaving online, not only should you listen to the 3rd anniversary edition of Zone 4, but you can also check out my recent appearance on Eric Ratcliffe's most excellent Why I Love Comics podcast.

And of course, there's a Job Stalker post this week all about saying "no". Which is my current dilemma du jour - I've been lucky in getting frequent freelance work, but I'm right now attempting to decide between going back to the corporate grind and setting up my own business. Either way, I'm going to need to do a lot of work....but in the meantime, I'll keep with the networking and the searching.

This weekend can't come quickly enough, if only for C2E2.....

The Week In Me

First, a trailer for this week's episode of Zone 4:

Next, on Sunday at 1:00 pm Central Time (think Chicago time and do the math yourself), please be sure to check out the livestream of Bar Tab of Rassilon. Since we won't be broadcasting on the 8th, here's our first episode for your viewing pleasure (and be sure to join us on Facebook):
Watch live streaming video from egentv at livestream.com
And finally, this week's Job Stalker. Between online appearances and finishing some freelance projects, things have kept me busy. Fortunately, it looks like I'll have some time to scope out some further work, and just accepted not one, but two comics scripting gigs. Both short stories, and one's for Zone 4. All this and prep for C2E2. Wow.

Gearing Up For THE BAR TAB OF RASSILON

Eagerly prepping to head out this afternoon for the premiere "broadcast" of The Bar Tab of Rassilon, coming on the heels of last night's Zone 4 recording, which...well, all I'll say is that I demonstrate that brevity is the soul of wit, and that pal Brant has a huge editing task ahead of him.

But this morning, was pleasantly surprised to see that a review of a Big Finish Sherlock Holmes audio written for The Baker Street Blog was a featured headline on the Big Finish Productions website. Here's a snapshot:

And if you want, you can simply watch (at 1:00 pm Chicago time) via the embed below, and leave comments. Enjoy! (Or, join us at http://www.livestream.com/egentv)

Panic in the Streets of Berwyn?

(Been listening to Louder Than Bombs by the Smiths quite a bit; hence the title reference)

Well, this week is going to see me taking a well-deserved break from Zone 4, but that shouldn't stop you from listening. Or from making comments that the show slightly dips when I'm not around.

But in all honesty, I have been quite busy and have been "filling out the old online portfolio", as some pundits might put it. I'm gearing up for the online broadcast premiere of The Bar Tab of Rassilon with pal Phil - please be sure to join us at 1:00 pm Chicago time on Sunday, March 25th for our premiere. Simply head to http://www.livestream.com/egentv to watch, and also join us on Facebook by heading to http://www.facebook.com/BarTabofRassilon.

(Got lectured by one of the Radio Free Skaro guys about how I formatted time. I said "CST" instead of "CDT" on Twitter. I think they owe pal Roger an apology, since he's the guy who finds my gaffes).

But anyway, there have been some really cool professional - and personal - highlights for me online this week, including:
Now, a small favor - Carlos, who edits Excelsior Webcomics (where my take on Wonderman will make his debut) also writes a manga-flavored strip called Eco-Teen. Please check it out when you get a chance.

Peoples of the Universe, Please Attend Carefully....

(My apologies for the poor taste of the last five seconds of the above video)...

Once upon a time, my pal Phil and I hosted an online radio show focusing on Doctor Who discussion on Sundays at 1:00 pm. However, we've not been able to connect since November....but fortunately, time, efforts, and the insight of a close Chicago pal helped bring about a brand new gig which, quite honestly, is the best birthday gift a guy can receive.

Starting next Sunday at 1:00 pm CST, Phil and I will be hosting The Bar Tab of Rassilon, an online television show focusing on Doctor Who discussion. (That's right, online tv - just point your browser to http://www.livestream.com/egentv and you can watch Phil and I in all our 1970s-era-BBC-Budget glory). It will be on for one hour, and will be everything that the old show was, and more...

(Yes, we will be pursuing an online radio/podcast presence as well. I also don't know if our show will be rerun at some point, but will fill you in later).

So if you would like more information, or want updates, please join us at (EDIT) our new Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/BarTabofRassilon (We had an old one, but will be deleting it early next week). If you want to be in our audience, please check out this Facebook invite.

Thanks, and Phil and I look forward to entertaining you next week - enjoy!
